Community efforts
All around New Zealand, ordinary Kiwis are volunteering their time, expertise and dollars to help save our national bird.
More than 80 community-led projects are under way, many involving iwi. In the North Island, much of the action is focused in Northland and the Coromandel, with important projects also under way in the Taranaki, Bay of Plenty, East Coast/Hawke’s Bay and Wellington regions. In the South Island, more community projects are beginning to take root—on the West Coast, in the Lewis and Arthur’s Passes and on Stewart Island/Rakiura.
